The Big 2 Combo Package – Sharks & Whales
The Big 2 Combo is a must for Whale and shark lovers when visiting South Africa. You will have a complete experience of the Big 2 between the months of July – December. This special package includes 1+ nights accommodation combined with Great White Shark Cage Diving, Land Based Whale watching and Boat Based Whale Watching.
We have a selection of 3 packages offering stays of different duration with both the shark diving and Whale watching. Drive up the beautiful coastline from Cape Town and then stop off at Hermanus on the way through to Gansbaai. Hermanus is famed for it’s land based Whale Watching but this is a great place to warm up as our side of the bay is a secret gem with normally 5-10 times as many Whales along the cliff edge. You can either drive yourself to Gansbaai or opt for either the Shark Diving Shuttle or Private transfer.
Self Drive
There are 2 stunning roads to take to Gansbaai. The first and quickest is to drive up the N2 past Somerset West and then up Sir Lowry’s mountain pass. This is a stunning road and there is a viewpoint at the top offering spectacular views over Cape Town and across to the Winelands. If you are lucky you will even see the troop of Baboons hanging around in the car park (Just don’t leave your car door open or bags unattended as the Baboons are always looking for a treat) The drive is beautiful through the mountains to Hermanus and then Gansbaai.
The second and preferred option is the coastal road (R44) when driving on the N2 just after Somerset west and at the base of Sir Lowry’s Pass take a right into Gordons Bay. Then when at Gordons Bay take a left and follow the coastal road along the cliff edges. The drive is breath-taking and there are plenty of places to pull over to stop and enjoy the views and take photos of False Bay. The road will finally take you to Kleinmond and after this onto the R43 to the Right to Hermanus and then Gansbaai.
Private Transfer
This is a special service we offer to our guests and can pick you up when and where you like. Many of our clients who do not want to hire a car book our private transfer from the Airport or Cape Town. The good thing about private transfer is that if you are staying in Cape Town then you can arrange for us to pick you up in the afternoon after your day’s excursions in Cape Town. Then you will not miss a precious day with travel arrangements.
If you wish and have the time then we can drive along the coastal road (30 mins – 1 hour longer) and stop in Betty’s Bay at the Penguin Colony for a quick visit. This penguin colony is the largest in the cape region with over resident 5,000 penguins. This is the most successful breading colony in southern Africa and to make it better this colony is away from the crowds of Cape Town mass tourism such as at Boulder Beach Penguin colony.

Shark Diving Shuttle
The Shark Diving Shuttle leaves each day early morning from Cape Town to Gansbaai for the tours. The bus waits in Gansbaai whilst the clients are on the tour and then returns early afternoon back to Cape Town. This service is obviously weather dependent and if the weather is bad and tours cancelled then there will not be a bus running. All buses drive over the mountain pass route both ways.
Price: R200 per person each way

Package Itinerary
This package is ideal if you have a limited schedule and want to get both shark cage diving and Whale watching in during your stay.
Day 1:
We will inform you the day before what time you will need to be in Gansbaai. If there are 2 – 3 trips running that day we will book you on the latest tour to give you ample time to make your way to Gansbaai. The meeting time should be at any time after 11am. Meet at the crew house for the Whale watching and depart on a fantastic round trip visiting the Seal Colony on Geyser Rock, the Penguins at Dyer Island, then past the shark cage diving boats and on to Pearly beach to visit the Whales close to the shoreline. Following your trip you will check into the Roundhouse and then explore the coastline and the world class land based Whale watching.
Day 2:
This morning you will embark on your scheduled Great White Shark Tour. The tour is +/- 3 hours at sea so you should be finished by around 1PM. You can return to the Roundhouse for a late check-out and shower off the shark bait and chum

Day 1:
Today you will make your way to Gansbaai either by driving yourself, private transfer or Shark Diving Shuttle. Try to get here before 5 PM then this will give you time to explore the coastal hiking trails and clifftop roads to view the 200+ Whales in the bay. Overnight The Roundhouse B&B.
Day 2:
This morning you will embark on your scheduled Great White Shark Tour. The tour is +/- 3 hours at sea so you should be finished by around 1PM. The afternoon is to be enjoyed at your leisure enjoying the stunning beaches, coastal paths and roads by car along the cliff edge of De Kelders to watch the Whales. Overnight The Roundhouse B&B.
Day 3:
After breakfast you will head down to the crew house to meet for the Whale Watching tour. After a meeting and briefing we will walk down to the boat and enjoy a stunning boat based Whale tour. What is best about this tour is you will also see an abundance of other wildlife. The boat first goes past the Shark Cage Diving boats and you will have a chance of seeing a Great White Shark again as well as the 60,000 strong colony of Cape Fur Seals on Geyser Rock. After passing through Shark Alley we will stop close to the shore of Dyer Island to view the resident Penguin colony and abundant bird life. We then head towards Pearly Beach coastline in search for the Southern Right Whales. On the way we may see some migrating Hump Back Whales in the deeper waters and a great possibility of seeing Dolphins. Every day is a new day on sea and we never know what we may see. In 2012 we were fortunate to witness a super-pod of Dolphins 2000+ strong being chased by 6 Orcas. Now that was a trip!! When we reach the shallow waters near Pearly Beach we will look out for the Southern Right Whales. The boat has a permit to come within 50 meters of the Whales and when we approach them we will turn our engines off. Most of the time the Whales come towards the boat out of curiosity and you may be fortunate enough to have a very close encounter.
After visiting the Whales we will then move our way along the shallows back to Kleinbaai harbour and at all times looking out for Dolphins, Great White Sharks and other marine life.
You have the option to stay another night or two as part of the package to enjoy this special place.
